Whatever happens in the next two weeks, a storm of change will arrive at Manchester United.
United’s remaining two Premier League games and the FA Cup final feel like three finals for Erik ten Hag as he tries to convince Sir Jim Ratcliffe of his ability to lead this team into a new era.
The club will have to fight to qualify for next season’s Europa League, while the FA Cup final could give Ten Hag two trophies in two seasons.
On the other hand, losing all three, or even just one, would likely see United out of the Conference League or out of Europe altogether.
After a disastrous season, the scale between success and failure hangs in the balance, as does Ten Hag’s own future.
The Guardian reports that the Dutchman has a “50-50” chance of keeping his place, which may seem like a no-brainer, but Ten Hag has repeatedly insisted he will be here next season.
More importantly, the report states that a final decision on his future will be made within the next two weeks.
The schedule coincides perfectly with the FA Cup final on May 26, after which INEOS may take a few days to assess the season as a whole.
It seems like they could be swayed by how United finish the season, especially as the team is likely to return a number of players for the final.
It was always expected that Ten Hag would be given the opportunity to manage the team in the finals, which he initially led, but recent results have found a new low.
However, INEOS is strong-willed and will not make a decision until the end of the season. But at least fans now have a date when they can expect the club’s future to become clearer.
Which one will it be? There are three games to play and the clock is ticking.
