According to a person close to Adams, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (Democrat) is scheduled to meet with President-elect Trump in Florida on Friday, just days before Trump’s inauguration next week.
“Tomorrow, Mayor Adams will sit down with President-elect Trump to discuss the priorities of New Yorkers,” Adams spokesman Fabien Levy said in a post to X on Thursday. “We can develop our city and our country.”
In December, Adams met with Trump’s next ‘border czar’ Tom Homan. After the meeting, Adams said at a press conference that the two shared a common goal of “preventing dangerous individuals from committing repeated acts of violence in cities across America.”
Adams emphasized after the hour-long meeting that New York City would protect the rights of immigrants who “work hard and give back to the city in real ways.”
“Mayor Adams has made clear his commitment to working with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers. And our partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City’s success,” Levy said.
Adams was indicted on federal fraud and bribery charges last September. He has denied any wrongdoing and has pleaded not guilty. He is scheduled to go on trial in April.
When asked about the federal indictment in mid-December, President Trump said he believed Adams had been treated quite unfairly and that he would consider a pardon.
Trump recently met with another Democrat at Mar-a-Lago. Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and the president-elect met at Mar-a-Lago last weekend. Trump described the meeting as “fascinating” and described the freshman senator as a “man of common sense.”
He is not liberal or conservative,” Trump said. “He’s just a common sense guy, and he’s really beautiful.”
