England rugby star Billy Vunipola was arrested after a violent incident at a pub in Mallorca last weekend. The 31-year-old man was reportedly shot with a Taser twice and eventually handcuffed.
According to Spanish news outlet Ultima Hora, police were called to the Epic bar on Paseo Maritimo in Palma after Vunipola was acting aggressively in the early morning hours, and security guards took him into custody. I couldn’t do it.
The Saracens star was ‘very angry’ and behaved aggressively towards security guards and other customers while drunk. Vunipola allegedly began confronting “people who passed him,” took off his shirt, and threatened to attack people with “bottles and chairs.”
Upon arrival, local police urged onlookers to evacuate the area and initially hoped they could speak to Vunipola. However, their efforts were unsuccessful as the England star continued to ‘challenge the officers’.
The officer then fired a Taser at Vunipola, but the rugby star was unfazed by the shock due to his size and fired a second time. Vunipola did not fall to the ground after being shot, but it knocked him off balance and eventually led eight officers to handcuff him.
Saracens 8 was taken to a nearby hospital, Son Espases, where he was sedated and strapped to a bed. Police officers and security guards ensured that Vunipola left the facility without power while he was taking his medication.
Vunipola eventually calmed down and was given time to sleep before being taken to the Via Aleman court in Palma on Sunday afternoon. He was seen appearing in court wearing the same clothes he was arrested in, wearing the blue T-shirt he allegedly took off during the violent incident.
The Australian-born star has been released on bail pending the ongoing investigation, according to The Sun. Spanish authorities have yet to issue a statement on the allegations over the weekend and court officials have yet to publicly comment on the matter at this stage.
