England Lions 324 and 122 won by 3 (Yates 57*). Sri Lanka 139 and 306 (Madushka 77, Dhanajaya 66, Mathews 51) for 7 wickets
After beating Sri Lanka for 309 on the third afternoon, the Lions, who were looking for 122 runs to secure victory, had been on the verge of victory at 47-2 the previous night and needed just 19.5 overs to seal victory on the final morning.
Yates, who finished on 17, added 40 runs from the top of the batting order, with Sri Lanka’s only success in the shortened match coming when England Under-19 captain Hamza Sheikh was bowled out lbw by Milan Ratnayake for 16 runs.
But James Liu, the Under-19s’ most recent key player, joined Yates in scoring 53 runs for the fourth wicket, taking 23 runs off 41 balls after catching Dhanajaya de Silva’s winning single.
Sri Lanka now head to Emirates Old Trafford for their first Test match against England on Wednesday.
