Josh Inglis and Alex Carey are set to play in the same XI as Australia look to secure the one-day series at Lord’s after rain delayed their start, with the visitors boosted by the returns of Travis Head and Adam Zampa.
After heavy rain in the morning, the weather cleared in time for the 43-man competition to begin at 2pm, but the threat of showers remained throughout the day.
Inglis has recovered from a thigh injury he suffered during the T20 series. Carey seized the opportunity with both hands as he returned to the ODI side with scores of 74 and 77 not out for the first time since the World Cup opener last year. It means Carey will be playing at Lord’s for 14 months since the infamous defeat of Jonny Bairstow in last year’s Ashes.
Coach Andrew McDonald had previously revealed that while the two wicket-keepers have a chance to feature in the same team they were in previously, a call will still be needed between them for next year’s Champions Trophy. Inglis was recorded as having taken the gloves.
England have named an unchanged XI which means Jofra Archer will play back-to-back games.
