On a day when wickets continued to fall and all 12 were dropped, 20-year-old McKinney was the tallest to hit a composed 94 as the Lions were bowled out for 213 in their second innings.
The home team had scored 97 runs in the last match and needed to score 164 more on day three to seal victory. Tim Ward was unbeaten with 39 off 80 balls and added 77 for the first wicket with Jayden Goodwin.
The young Lions batting line-up, which featured nine under-22 players, was unable to fully exploit their advantage apart from former under-19 captain McKinney.
The left-handed opener reached his half-century with a textbook cover drive but was caught with a tail left behind when he pulled Gabe Bell for a boundary just short of his century. Last man Cook made a handy 23 from 19 balls as he and Baker added 28 for the last wicket. CAXI wickets were shared with Bell and Charlie Anderson claiming three each.
Bashir claimed the only wicket of the home side’s chase when Goodwin, son of former Zimbabwe and Sussex batsman Murray, was caught off the back foot by Bashir for 35. Raf MacMillan had 11 no shots.
