Vice President Doug Emhoff challenged former President Trump on Tuesday for his attacks on Vice President Harris, while deflecting the nickname for his new White House rival.
Trump has attacked Harris since she entered the presidential race on Monday, calling her “laughing Kamala” and “lying Kamala.”
“Is that all he’s got?” Emhoff asked at the event Tuesday.
Emhoff said his path to victory has been clear since his wife entered the race, and he is campaigning to carve out a path for America’s future.
“I heard the vice president make her case yesterday against Donald Trump. She made it very clear, very direct, very persuasive,” he said. “But she also laid out a vision for the future. A vision of freedom. A vision of not having to talk about these issues today in this post-Dobbs hellscape that Donald Trump has created.”
Harris and Trump have been locked in a tight race in early polls since Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday. Democrats quickly rallied around Harris, who effectively secured the party’s nomination late Monday when a majority of delegates pledged their support to her.
Her campaign took off quickly and broke fundraising records: She raised more than $80 million in the first 24 hours alone, and millions more for other Democratic organizations.
“You see the passion and the excitement,” Emhoff said. “You see the money raised, you see the party coming together. You see her building a broad base of support in just a day or two because she’s talking about an America where we can all have a place.”
