Elden Ring Nightreign is removing one of the Souls series’ most beloved features. This is because the developers feel that players will not have enough time to engage with this mechanic.
Players in Elden Ring Nightreign cannot leave messages for players or read messages left by other players. Dating back to Demon’s Souls, this feature has allowed players to point the way to hidden treasure, leave a crude joke, or trick the player into jumping off a ledge.
In an interview with IGN Japan, director Junya Ishizaki said, “You can still see the ghosts of other players, but the ability to leave messages has been removed. “The reason we removed the messaging feature is because in this game, where each session lasts about 40 minutes, you don’t have time to write your own messages, and you don’t have time to read messages written by other people.”
Another significant change is that now, according to the developers, enemies defeated in battle will no longer respawn when the player is resting in the Place of Grace. In the Souls games, players trade the ability to heal and save the game at certain checkpoints for the downside of having all the little enemies respawn.
Announced on stage at The Game Awards in December, Elden Ring: Nightreign will allow multiple players to take on bosses in co-op gameplay.
Network testing for Elden Ring: Nightreign is scheduled to take place in February.
This summer, Miyazaki said there was outside interest in adapting Elden Ring into a film.
