The study also found that the causeways of other pyramids such as Khafre, Menkaure and Kentkaus lead to another riverine called Giza Inlet. This indicates that the river’s tributaries were still active during the 4th Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
A study led by archaeologist Eman Ghoneim of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington concluded that Aramat branch began construction about 4,200 years ago. Significant drought led to increased wind-blown sand deposition that gradually filled the river’s tributaries, eventually rendering them invisible even in modern satellite images.
