Game developer Midnight Society has cut ties with popular video game content creator Guy Beahm, who goes by the name Dr Disthought, following claims surrounding his 2020 Twitch ban.
In 2020, streaming platform Twitch banned Dr Disthought shortly after announcing a lucrative new contract, but did not mention why. While Dr Disthought has continued to stream on YouTube for the past four years, on June 21 former Twitch employee Cody Conners Claimed by X (formerly Twitter) stated that they had banned Dr Disthought from Twitch because he had been “caught sexting with a minor in the then-existing Twitch whisper product.” Beam responded, “I did nothing wrong, everything was investigated and resolved, nothing was illegal, no mistakes were found, and I received compensation.”
These claims caught the attention of Midnight Society, a video game studio that produces free-to-play “vertical extraction shooters.” dead drop. Bolling said on Saturday that he was ‘aware of’ and ‘addressed’ the allegations, and the studio issued a formal response to the matter on Monday afternoon, cutting ties with Beam. .
“On Friday evening we learned of the allegations against one of our co-founders (sic.) Guy Beahm (aka Dr Disthought). We believe he is innocent and have begun conversations with the parties involved. And to uphold our principles and standards as a studio and as individuals, we had to act,” reads a statement from Midnight Society posted on X. “For this reason, we are terminating our relationship with Guy Beahm, effective immediately. “These facts are hard to hear and even harder to accept, but it is our duty to act with dignity on behalf of all individuals involved, especially the player community, as well as the 55 developers we employ and their families.”
