Emhoff, making his first solo appearance since Harris formally announced her candidacy following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race, was asked about Trump’s attacks on the leading Democratic candidate.
“I heard the vice president make a very clear case yesterday about Donald Trump,” Emhoff said, referring to a speech he gave Monday at his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. “She made a direct and compelling case. But she also laid out a vision for the future. A vision of freedom. A vision of not having to talk about these issues today in this post-Dobbs hellhole that Donald Trump has created.”
He accused Trump of encouraging censorship and promised to continue to call out the candidate, whose wife was convicted of a crime, for his mishandling of COVID-19 and “incitement of insurrection.”
Emoff noted how quickly Democrats backed Harris, saying, “Because she’s talking about an America where we can all stand together… She’s going to unite the country. She’s going to get this nomination. You’ll see it happen and she’s going to win this election.”
Harris, a former California senator and attorney general who is already believed to have secured enough delegates to win the nomination, slyly mocked her Republican rival at a rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday.
“A predator who abuses women. A con artist who defrauds consumers. A fraud who bends the rules for his own gain. So listen when I say I know the type of person Donald Trump is,” she added.
