At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, Trump appeared to casually suggest that violence will one day end crime.
Trump declared that Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) should be held accountable for “a truly violent day.”
“It was a difficult time. I mean it’s really hard work. The world will solve it and it will end immediately. Quit immediately. “As you know, it ends immediately,” he added, without sharing specifics.
This concept echoes ‘The Purge’, a fictional film series in which all crime is legal for only 12 hours a day of the year. (According to USA Today, at least one film in the franchise takes aim at the former Trump administration.)
His dangerous comments followed his comments on Sunday about a surge in crime, a false claim used by the far right to stoke fear. He also repeated the lie that the rise in crime is immigrants’ fault.
Recently, he warned that if he loses the election, there will be a ‘bloodbath’.
