DJI Mavic Air Overview
DJI has made a name for itself in the drone market, and for a little over a year it has focused on small, portable drones that are safe and can be flown via an Android app. The Mavic Pro started the trend, followed by the Spark.
It may be easier to describe the new Mavic Air compared to previous drones than simply listing its specifications. We will take care of it quickly. Don’t worry.
The new DJI Mavic Air folds like the Mavic Pro. Also like the Pro, it features a 1/2.3-inch camera sensor with 12MP photo resolution and 4K video at 30fps. The 3-axis stabilized camera captures up to 100Mbps of data, a significant improvement over the Mavic Pro’s 60Mbps. Post a comparison video and you’ll see what I mean.
The Mavic Air is smaller than the Mavic Pro, but not as small as the Spark. At least it’s not small when unfolded. However, when folded, you can fit the Mavic Air into your coat pocket. At 430 grams, you can barely feel it.
When we talk about the DJI Spark, its biggest selling point is that you can control the drone using hand gestures. In addition to hand gestures, Mavic Air also features several new flight modes, additional flight range, and ground takeoff and landing capabilities. You can also fly using the DJI GO 4 app for Android and a dedicated remote control.
Pricing and Availability
The DJI Spark costs about $500, and the Mavic Pro costs about $1,000. Just as we split the difference in other ways, the Mavic Air also splits price. Pre-orders are available starting today.
