2023 was a good year for DJI. Three new drones were released, Air 3 being one of them.
This is good news for those who want to upgrade some of the drones they have at the time and for those who are looking to buy their first DJI drone.
You’ve probably received the new Air 3 since launch. If you’re new to the hobby, there’s quite a bit to learn to successfully fly in the new Air 3.
This tutorial is for people who need help before taking their first flight.
This article and included YouTube video are step-by-step tutorials showing how to power on and off the Air 3 and both remote controller versions (DJI RC 2 or RC-N2)..
memo: Although not required, we recommend that you fully charge all batteries in your Air 3 and remote controller before following this how-to guide.
Power on/on sequence
DJI has produced dozens of drones over the years. One thing that many, if not most, of them have in common is the DJI-recommended power-on and power-off sequence. This continues in Air 3 as well.
The order to power on the Air 3 is to first turn on the remote controller, then turn on the Air 3 and finally open the DJI Fly app if you are using the DJI RC-N2.
If you own a DJI RC 2, turning the controller and DJI Fly app on and off is just one comprehensive step.
Again, this is the recommended order. Air 3 turns on and flies in any order.
Powering on DJI RC 2
Press the power button once, then immediately press and hold the power button. Upon booting, the DJI welcome screen appears.
When RC 2 is turned on, you will also hear a rising beep to indicate that the controller is powered on.
After about 10-20 seconds, the DJI Fly home screen will appear and your drone is ready to connect.
Power on DJI RC-N2
Like RC2 Press the power button once, then immediately press and hold the power button.
When you first press the power button, the battery charge level is indicated by a green LED indicator. A second, longer press turns the remote controller on.
Like the DJI RC 2, when you turn on the RC-N2, you will hear a rising beep to indicate that the controller is powered on.
memo: Many mobile phones, once connected to the RC-N2 controller, will turn on the screen when the controller is powered on. Some Android devices go one step further and display a dialog box asking you to launch the DJI Fly app. If you see this option, you can choose to launch the DJI Fly app now.
Power on your Air 3

Step 3: Launch the DJI Fly app If the I am using RC-N2 and As mentioned earlier, the DJI Fly app did not start automatically when the controller was powered on.
Turn off Air 3 (and RC)
Similar to the power-on sequence, DJI also has a recommended sequence for turning off Air 3 and the remote controller.
