The Air 3 has proven to be a very capable upgrade to the Air 2S.
Not only does it feature a dual camera system similar to the one found in the original Mavic 3, but it also features an omni-directional obstacle avoidance system.
Like the Mini 4 Pro, the Air 3 also benefits from using the DJI RC 2 remote controller.
For those new to the Air 3, the DJI RC 2 is an updated all-in-one controller based on the DJI RC that was released alongside the DJI Mini 3 Pro in May 2022.
If you’ve never flown with a DJI All-in-One remote controller, this article and YouTube video explains why you might want to connect to Wi-Fi on your DJI RC 2 and walks you through the steps needed to connect your DJI RC. 2 WiFi.
Why do I connect to WiFi?
This is a question that many people who are new to flying DJI drones wonder because WiFi is not a critical factor in flying the Air 3.
As an Air 3 owner using a DJI RC 2, I have two very specific reasons why I would want to connect to Wi-Fi.
- Install firmware update
- Access flight maps offline within DJI Fly
People who use the DJI RC-N2 controller with a mobile phone are advised to connect to WiFi for the additional purpose of using the QuickTransfer feature.
firmware update
DJI has added new features, tweaks, and fixes to Air 3 to improve the user experience.
The only way to take advantage of these additional features is to update your firmware. Firmware updates require a stable WiFi signal.
Although you can connect to your phone’s hotspot via Wi-Fi when you’re on the go, we recommend updating your firmware from home or indoors over a stable Wi-Fi connection.
flight map
In the DJI Fly app, there is a flight map at the bottom left of the camera view.
If you’re not connected to WiFi through a phone hotspot or have never flown in a particular area, you won’t be able to see the details of your surrounding flight area.
While you’re at a location, connect to your phone via Wi-Fi to download local maps.
Or explore where you want to fly in advance while connected to Wi-Fi at home, zoom in on the location, and an offline map of the area will be saved to DJI RC 2.
QuickTransfer and LightCut (DJI RC-N2)
QuickTransfer is for people who: Use DJI Fly with your smartphone and DJI RC-N2 remote controller.
The Quick Transfer feature lets you wirelessly export content from your Air 3’s SD card via Wi-Fi to your Android or iOS (Apple) smartphone or device running DJI Fly without having to power on or have the remote controller nearby. . problem.
This is ideal for people who want to quickly edit photos or videos and immediately share them with family, friends, or social media.
memo: If you are using DJI RC 2, you cannot export photos and videos to the remote controller using the QuickTransfer feature. RC 2 does not have editing capabilities, so you cannot transfer content. today Supported. Editing must be done on an Android or iOS smart device running DJI Fly.
Additionally, once the video is transferred from Air 3 to your smart device, you can use DJI’s recommended LightCut video editor on that device.
Using AI and a set of templates, LightCut lets you edit your video directly on your mobile device without having to export it to Finalcut Pro, Adobe Premier, or DaVinci Resolve.
