Sometimes, your 2TB external hard disk formatted as ExFAT gets unplugged suddenly (by unfortunate hand movements, cats, etc.). There’s no real damage because you’re not doing anything to the disk, but of course MacOS doesn’t know this and complains that the disk isn’t mounted properly.
In most cases, mounting Disk Utility or performing “Disk Repair” will not solve the problem. Surprisingly, “Disk Recovery” notifies me less than a minute later, telling me it can’t recover anything, no matter how often I try. However, disconnecting the disk and connecting it to your old Windows 10 system for recovery solves the problem. Your disk will be restored in about an hour.
I understand that MacOS also takes a lot of time when it has to read the entire disk, but I quickly decide that there is no chance of fixing it. What’s special about this problem is that it’s possible on Windows but not on MacOS.
