Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mother, Janice Smalls Combs, released a statement defending her son, who has been accused of sex trafficking, racketeering and sexual abuse.
The rapper and businessman was taken into custody at a Manhattan hotel on Monday, September 16, after being indicted by a grand jury.
“I come to you today as a mother shocked and deeply saddened by the allegations against my son, Sean Combs. It was heartbreaking to see my son judged not by the truth but by a story made up of lies,” Janice said in a message shared by her attorney, Natlie G. Figgers.
She continued:
“It is an unbearable pain beyond words to bear witness to how my son was seemingly publicly lynched before he had a chance to prove his innocence.
“Like all human beings, my son deserves to take his side in court today and prove his innocence.”
Didi’s mom went on to explain, “I’m not here to describe (her) son as perfect because he’s not,” adding, “He’s made mistakes in the past, like we all have.”
“My son may not have been completely truthful about certain things, such as denying that he was ever violent with his ex-girlfriend, according to hotel surveillance.”
In fact, last May, CNN obtained surveillance video from 2016 that showed Diddy grabbing Cathy Ventura outside an elevator, throwing her to the ground and kicking her multiple times.
Combs responded via Instagram at the time, adding: “It’s so hard to look back on the darkest times of my life.”
“Sometimes you have to do that. I’m screwed. What I mean is, I hit rock bottom, but I have no excuses. There is no excuse for my actions in that video.
“I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
Meanwhile, as part of the charges against Diddy, authorities said the mogul organized “freak offs,” or “elaborate sexual acts,” in which women “forced their victims to engage in prolonged sexual intercourse through force, threats of force, and coercion.” .Acting with male commercial sex workers.”
Among the items authorities seized from Didi’s home earlier this year were 1,000 bottles of baby oil, according to the legal document.
Diddy was accused by authorities of staging, directing, masturbating and often “electronically recording” Freak Offs while transporting commercial sex workers “across state lines and internationally.”
It’s absolutely disgusting and horrible in every way.
Going back to Janice, she said:
“Sometimes truth and lies are so intertwined that we are afraid to admit our part of the story. This is especially true when the truth is outside the norm or too complex to be believed.
“So, my son’s civil legal team did not object to the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit until the end and chose to reconcile, and I think it had a ricochet effect as the federal government interpreted this ruling as an admission of guilt to my son. .
“Not being completely honest about one issue does not mean my son is guilty of the abhorrent allegations and serious charges against him.
“Many people who were wrongly convicted and later exonerated have had their liberty taken away not because they pleaded guilty to the crimes they were charged with, but because they did not fit society’s image of a ‘good person.’ ‘”
And she concluded:
“Watching the world joke and laugh at my son’s life falling apart before our eyes is something I will never forget. It is truly painful to see the world turn away so quickly and easily with lies and misunderstandings, without ever hearing my son’s side of the story or giving him a chance to express his side of the story.
“The lies thrown at him are motivated by people seeking financial gain, not justice. After seeing my son’s civil legal team quickly resolve his ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit, they think they can get a quick paycheck by falsely accusing my son.
“False allegations of sexual violence prevent real victims of sexual violence from getting the justice they deserve.”
Didi pleaded not guilty to the charges after being denied bail twice. He was detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn pending trial.
