Shall we talk about the White House Christmas decorations? It looks like First Lady Jill Biden hired a bunch of drunken circus clowns to decorate the halls of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
More than 165,000 twinkling lights, 83 trees, and a miniature gingerbread replica of the White House. This year’s theme is “Season of Peace and Light.” But some people say it’s a retro carnival.
“May this holiday season bring peace and light to our country,” the first lady said.
“The holidays have always held a special place in our hearts, and we have loved opening the doors of the People’s House wider and wider each year, continuing the spirit of goodwill and gratitude. America’s story is your story, and we want you to feel at home here.” President Joe Biden and the First Lady wrote in a welcome letter to visitors in the 2024 White House Holiday Guidebook.
Online critics said Ms. Biden’s theme was a mix of The Hunger Games and The Nightmare Circus. The Washington Post also called the decorations “bizarre.”
The Blue Room features a huge old-fashioned carousel. It resembles a circus tent decorated with giant stuffed animals. Instead of Christmas music, Mrs. Biden chose carnival music.

“Jill Biden’s Christmas decorations resemble what would happen if circus clowns’ projectiles vomited all over the White House,” journalist Greg Price wrote in X.
The China Room is decorated with garlands made from artisan bread. It looks like a bodega.
At least Biden kept the historic White House nativity scene. During the Obama administration, Barack and Michelle considered removing the baby Jesus to make their holiday decorations more inclusive.
The good news is that First Lady Melania Trump will be in charge of next year’s decorations. Expect less Barnum & Bailey and more refined elegance.
