Through 17 games during the 2024 NFL season, the Saints finished with 5 wins and 12 losses. That was third overall in the NFC South, and New Orleans had the ninth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Last season the team was plagued by injuries on offense. At QB, Derek Carr has started 10 of 17 games in 2024.
The veteran signal caller has missed a total of seven games in 2024 due to injuries. Before last season, he had never started fewer than 15 games in a season. Carr missed the final four games of the 2024 season with a fractured hand. Speaking to the media, Derek Carr said he has no interest in taking a pay cut this offseason. He will count an NFL record $51.46 million against the 2025 cap. We’ll see what changes New Orleans makes at QB this offseason.
Derek Carr is open to contract restructuring but won’t take pay cut
tidings: #saints QB Derek Carr says he will not take a pay cut despite making $40 million this season. Because his family needs to get everything they can.
“I will not take a pay cut. This is especially true when it comes to tape. I will always help the team in that way. Here are some things you’ve earned.” pic.twitter.com/MbLWquZ5Wy

Next season will be the third year of Derek Carr’s four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints. In his first season with the Saints, Carr was 9-8 and the team missed the postseason. Year two was not a success for the veteran QB. A second-round pick by the Raiders in 2014, he played in just 10 games for the Saints in 2024. Carr suffered an oblique injury early in the year and fractured his hand late in the season. Heading into 2025, all options are on the table for the Saints.
Derek Carr is confident that his play has earned him the right to remain as a Saints starting QB. We’ll see if this remains true this offseason. New Orleans could fire Carr and have $50.13 million in dead cap space in 2025. The Broncos did something similar with Russell Wilson when they tried to release him. In 10 starts this season, Carr has passed for 2,145 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. The veteran QB said he would restructure his contract this offseason but would not take a pay cut. Difficult decisions lie ahead for the congregation as they look for a new bishop.
