Winger Rotimi Segun joined Saracens’ injury list after Sunday’s loss to Castres.
The 28-year-old was pulled over after a seemingly fairly innocuous incident following an hour-long defeat in his team’s Investec Champions Cup at StoneX Stadium.
Saracens have now confirmed that the winger has suffered a calf injury and is expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks.
It comes shortly before former England captain Jamie George was ruled out of the opener of the Guinness Six Nations against Ireland with a hamstring injury.
Saracens face Exeter Chiefs in the Gallagher Premiership on Saturday and are already without an England squad including captain Maro Itoje, Ben Earl, Elliot Daly, Theo Dan and Tom Willis. This will be the last Premiership match until March, when the Premiership Rugby Cup resumes during the Six Nations.
Segun is likely to miss Sarris’ Champions Cup round of 16 clash with Toulon at Stade Mayol on April 5. The loss to Castres in London cost the club the chance to host a knockout match and instead face a tough trip to the Cote d’Azur.
Flanker Toby Knight was the final casualty of the clash with the Top 14 outfit. The flanker lasted less than 10 minutes on the bench before leaving the pitch with a knee injury. However, the extent of the injury is not yet known and the 23-year-old is expected to see a consultant.
Knight joins a sizeable list of absentees in the back row, including the injured duo of Andy Onyeama-Christie and Theo McFarland, and Earl and Willis, both on international duty.
Saracens currently sit third in the league and a win over Chiefs, who have won just one league win this season, would cement their place in the top four, while fifth-placed Gloucester play fourth-placed Leicester Tigers on Saturday. no see. That means the points will fall just below that.
