The “Parent Trap” star insisted on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” Tuesday that Trump’s ongoing hush trial in New York has nothing to do with his election chances and said she believes the former president is “working for the American people.”
“I think I’ll vote for him in the next election,” Quaid told Morgan. “Yes that’s right.”
“That makes sense.” He continued: “I was prepared not to vote for Trump until I saw the weaponization of the judicial system over politics and a challenge to the Constitution that we as Americans will never face. (The future).”
When the host argued that the upcoming ruling was “immaterial” in Trump’s current criminal trial on charges he made payments to cover up an extramarital affair, Quaid agreed.
“No,” the 70-year-old actor told Morgan. “You know, Trump is probably the most investigated person in the history of the world and they haven’t really found out anything about him. Actually, what is a crime? “I don’t know yet.”
“People may call him a fool, but he is my fool,” he said elsewhere in the interview.
This landmark criminal case is one of four ongoing indictments against Trump, who faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. If found guilty, he could face up to four years in prison.
The jury is scheduled to begin deliberations this week.
Quaid told Morgan that he truly believes Trump is a man of “truth and integrity,” arguing that President Joe Biden, who will face Trump in a series of debates this summer, is too incompetent for his next term. “To get votes.”
“Last campaign, ’16, ’20, I was like, ‘Please don’t say that,’” Quaid said Tuesday. “You know, these things are going to come out of his mouth, but as president, I don’t know what to say about Trump. The only thing I liked was everything he did.”
“What he did with ‘Rocket Baby’ (Kim Jong-un) about (North Korea),” he said. “It’s how he defeated ISIS in three weeks. How he stood up for us overseas, in China. What he did in China. The way he reacts, he stands up to people and that’s what makes him a leader.”
In 2023, Trump became the first U.S. president to be formally charged with a federal crime for conspiring to withhold classified documents. He is also accused of interfering in the presidential election and attempting to overturn Biden’s 2020 victory.
