Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.) blasted Project 2025, the Republican Party’s sweeping plan to advance right-wing priorities and expand presidential powers, as “un-American” in a new interview Saturday.
Appearing on the MSNBC report, Dean didn’t mince words when expressing his feelings about the massive conservative effort.
“It’s really un-American,” the Democratic lawmaker said. “When we look, what we are proud of are the institutions that support our elected officials, the public officials who are responsible for legislating for the president to function as an executive branch.
He continued, “What they want is to replace public officials. “People who work for the country without political bias,” he added.
Project 2025, known as the Presidential Transition Project, is the Heritage Foundation’s blueprint for whether former President Trump will be re-elected. The goal is to promote right-wing policies and expand presidential authority.
The foundation noted on the project’s website that President Trump “accepted nearly two-thirds of Heritage’s proposals after just one year in office.”
Dean went on to call the idea of replacing current government officials with people loyal to Trump “very isolationist and nationalistic,” and ultimately called the project “a very scary plan.”
“This adds to the overall system. We should be served by people who pursue the interests of the American people, not their political ambitions or goals,” Dean said.
House Democrats this week launched an initiative to combat Project 2025 and have expressed concerns about the policy changes the project proposes, including the elimination of certain federal agencies.
Dean went on to say that he does not believe Trump will win re-election, nor does he think Project 2025 will succeed, but he is concerned about the potential dangers presented by Trump’s rhetoric in the meantime.
