Sony has revealed which games will be added to the PlayStation Classics lineup on December 10th, and it’s great news for Sly Cooper fans!
Yes, everyone’s favorite thief trash panda is back. Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves will be released on December 10th, joining the original Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoonus that released earlier this year.
Although not specifically mentioned in the blog post, both Sly games will likely be available for purchase separately for those without an active premium membership like other first-party PlayStation Classics. We also assume that both will run on PlayStation’s new emulation technology and have full support for trophies. At least I hope they do because I have shiny platinum from the first game and would like to complete my collection.
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is now coming to PS4 and PS5 via Sony’s latest PlayStation 2 emulation software. Are classic platformers worth playing?
However, it’s worth mentioning that Sony can be frustratingly vague when it comes to details related to classic titles. For example, it was recently announced that the first Resistance game would be coming to the Classic lineup, and I assumed this game would be emulated as well, so I could finally play Resistance without having to use PlayStation’s terrible game streaming service. But no. Despite Resistance being mentioned alongside other classic titles and hinting that it would be emulated, this was a streaming version.
Dear Sony, Please provide more details so I don’t have to get my hopes up. Seriously.
The third game to join the classic lineup is a bit more unusual. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor’s Legacy is already available to purchase and play, along with several other titles in the franchise. You can also access Jak & Daxter games with an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. The PlayStation blog doesn’t provide an explanation as to why there are two versions of Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, so we’ll have to assume some details. While the existing Jak & Daxter titles are all PS4 ports of the original games, this new edition of the game will probably run using new emulation technology, so it will be quite similar to how the PS2 original plays.
Sly 2, Sly 3, and Jak & Daxter launch on December 10th and are included as part of the premium subscription.
