Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’s vice presidential running mate, will take center stage at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night to make his case to voters, some of whom may not have known his name even a month ago.
Weeks after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Walz quickly rose to the top of Harris’s list of potential vice presidential candidates with his candid media interviews and friendly Midwestern demeanor. Many expect him to bring those communicative strengths to bear in his keynote address Wednesday night.
Walz is the latest speaker on a list packed with Democratic heavyweights like former President Bill Clinton and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The schedule also includes rising party stars like Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, a former contender to be Harris’ running mate.
The evening will be hosted by actor and producer Mindy Kaling, and will feature musical performances by John Legend and other special guests.
