Incessant rain led to suspension of play on the first day of the opening Test between India and New Zealand on Wednesday. The match was called off at 2.34pm as heavy rain lashed the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after relieving for about 30 minutes. After the outfield and primary cover were removed around 1:50 p.m., game officials came out to inspect the field around 2 p.m. However, there were wet areas on either side of the pitch as Hessen made a last-ditch attempt to gain playing time. However, it was a futile effort as rain of varying intensity had already caused extensive damage since early morning.
Even the toss, previously scheduled for 9 a.m., could not be held due to rain pouring down throughout the city since the morning.
Despite the bad weather, many spectators gathered at the stadium.
But the only exciting moment for them was witnessing star batsman Virat Kohli and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal participate in an indoor net session with assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
Current forecasts call for more rain until at least midday on Thursday, so we may have to wait longer to take action on the second day as well.
It is remembered that both teams’ training was canceled due to heavy rain on Tuesday.
The second day’s match is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and the toss is scheduled for 8:45 a.m.
