Over the past decade, the issue of transgenderism has become increasingly prominent in American politics, a natural occurrence when personal choices begin to intersect with public policy, and for Kamala Harris, the issue has surfaced at a worst possible time.
There have always been policy concerns about the idea that men can decide whether they are women. There have been questions about women’s shelters and prisons, locker rooms and bathrooms, but nothing pinpoints this problem more than men competing in women’s sports.

President Donald Trump gave a clear and concise answer to the issue during a Fox News town hall this week, saying, “That’s a really easy question. As everyone in the room and you know, we’re not going to let that happen.” wake up.”
Of course, he’s right. Few people see a photo of male swimmer Lea Thomas towering over a female athlete, or instinctively see a man hit a ball into a woman’s face in a volleyball game and know that it’s wrong and unfair.
But unfortunately for Kamala Harris and the Democrats, neither she nor they can say that plainly.
The Wall Street Journal editorial board is now calling this issue a sleeper issue in the 2024 primary. The same goes for Harris, as well as Senate candidates like Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Jon Tester of Montana, who have voted to secure transgender rights in the past.
Vice President Harris was criticized for her role as California attorney general in ensuring that prisoners and undocumented immigrants had access to taxpayer-funded diversion surgery.

I recently brought this up to voter Virginia Harris, a 60-something Staunton resident, and he was shocked. “Is that true?” did he ask?
Yes, it’s true.
The irreconcilable difficulty facing Democrats on this issue is that in order to reach the conclusion that men who identify as transgender should not compete with women, they must acknowledge that they are not, in fact, women. One is a terrible prejudice.
There is no way to fix this problem. Whether gender is a determination or a biological reality is a binary choice, and it was a choice Democrats made at a time when they thought there was political advantage in painting Republicans who defended biological reality as narrow-minded.
This is not fracking or Medicare for all. Harris is in no position to “evolve” on transgender issues without irreparably alienating the left wing of her party. Just as Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson cannot define the word woman, she cannot simply say, “I was wrong. Gender is biologically determined.”
With three weeks left until Election Day, Republicans up and down the ballot are flooding football games with ads showing the unfair and dangerous nature of men in women’s sports, and more and more women are speaking out.
Dan, who lives in Fredericksburg, is in his 40s and is also a Democrat. But he said to me, “Yeah, that’s definitely a problem and it shouldn’t be happening.”
I mention Virginia voters in particular because that blue, rolling commonwealth has a Republican governor named Glenn Youngkin. This is mainly due to his reasonable stance on cultural issues such as these.

The Trump campaign and Republicans know they have a winner on this issue. They also know, as does the news media, that Harris has left no room for hesitation. Just five years ago, at a CNN town hall, the candidate introduced herself by saying, “My pronouns are she, her, her.”
It’s hard to walk behind that.
No, Kamala Harris and the Democrats will have to sleep in this bed of their own making, even as more and more voters are realizing that the absurd notion that gender is a choice has serious real-world implications.

The transgender pretense is coming to an end. Everyone has the right to dress however they want and call themselves whatever they want, but they do not have the right to insist that everyone else deny reality to suit their tastes.
This problem won’t go away in the next three weeks or so. The American people will protect girls and women in sports whether Kamala Harris likes it or not.
