Dave Grohl is a divorced man. The question is, will he become a twice-divorced man?
In a shocking Instagram post, the Foo Fighters rocker admitted to the world that he had cheated on his wife of more than 20 years. To make matters worse, the affair resulted in an illegitimate child.
This story will probably sound familiar to those who have followed Dave’s career since his Nirvana days. For the rest of us, it’s worth explaining that Dave Grohl knows exactly what happens when you cheat on your spouse: divorce.
How much of his marital history will repeat itself? Let’s take a closer look.
Dave Grohl’s Divorce: His First Marriage Ended in Very Messy Way
Picture this: It’s 1994. That’s the year Dave Grohl married his first wife, Jennifer Youngblood.
Her last name says it all. At the time, Dave was only 25. He was still in Nirvana and his friend Kurt Cobain had just died.
In later years, Dave admitted in interviews that he was too young to get married, which may be why they split in 1997.
But this is not the end of the story.
There are conflicting reports as to why the two broke up, with one leading theory being that he cheated on her. Dave has insisted that their breakup was amicable.
“I was 25 and my wife was younger. We weren’t ready to get married,” he once told NME. “I miss her so much. She was the funniest, quirkiest person you’ll ever meet. She was lovely. I wish we hadn’t gotten married. But you learn as you go.”
His first divorce led to the breakup of the band.
Ultimately, Dave Grohl’s divorce involved more than just paperwork and dividing assets.
This incident caused the Foo Fighters to split, with one member leaving the group permanently.
Guitarist Pat Smear was reportedly a close friend of Dave’s first wife, Jenner Youngblood. The breakup was a defining moment for Pat, who was already feeling touring fatigue and disagreed with how Dave was controlling the group.
“I was just so fed up. I was just so fed up with it all,” Smear recalled in the documentary. Foo Fighters: Round Trip.
He added: “I didn’t want to go on (another) bazillion show tour, and I don’t care. I just didn’t want to do it anymore.”
So not only did Dave have to deal with a broken marriage, he also had to mend a broken band. He managed to reconcile with Pat, who had toured with the band in 2006.
But some lessons are harder to learn than others.
Dave Goll on the brink of divorce from second wife again
Six years later, on August 2, 2003, Dave married his second wife, Jordyn Blum, at his home in Los Angeles.
For more than 20 years, the couple seemed happily married. They had three children, all girls, and Dave seemed like a doting father even when he was on tour.
“I was on tour nine months of the year, and now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days,” he told Time in 2009.
Then on September 10, 2024, he announced that he was the father of his fourth little girl. But with another woman, not his wife! Yes, Dave admitted to the affair in a short but shocking statement on Instagram.
“I recently became a father to a daughter born out of wedlock,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday.
“I love my wife and children, and I am doing my best to regain their trust and gain their forgiveness.”
Now the question is, will his second marriage end in divorce like his first? The truth is, we don’t know right now. What we can say is that so far, there have been no rumors of Dave divorcing his wife or vice versa. Everything seems to be going very well.
In fact, the last time these two were seen together was at Wimbledon in 2024, and they looked like the picture-perfect couple.
Oh, secrets destroy all love stories. You’ll find out more.
