The Empire Strikes Back It’s most definitely the best Star Wars movie, but it’s still one that leaves fans with questions. For example, it’s unclear exactly why Darth Vader was so obsessed that he risked thousands of Imperial lives to track down the Millennium Falcon. But one fan theory offers an elegant answer. He would have sensed that a powerful Force user was on the ship and not know that it was actually Luke Skywalker’s twin sister Leia, and he would have assumed that the person who destroyed the Death Star was on the ship.
Darth Vader wants the Millennium Falcon
In case you need a quick recap, Darth Vader personally assisted in the invasion of Hoth and led the chase in his Star Destroyer after the Millennium Falcon escaped. The Rebels’ escape was successful thanks to Han Solo’s cunning and manipulative abilities, and we see that the chase cost the Imperials dearly in terms of loss of life. With two Star Destroys seemingly colliding and one being destroyed by an asteroid, fans are left wondering why Vader is willing to risk nearly 47,000 lives (a full complement of Star Destroys) to track down two humans, two droids and one alien. I wondered if I had sacrificed anything. .
There are certainly some practical reasons for Darth Vader’s obsession with capturing the Millennium Falcon. This includes that it will be the only way to interrogate the rebels after the failed invasion of Hoth. Additionally, he was under additional pressure from the Emperor, who warned him via hologram of a “new enemy, Luke Skywalker.” According to this fan theory, Vader’s obsessive pursuit of the Falcon comes down to the fact that he was completely convinced that Luke Skywalker was on board, and was willing to sacrifice countless Imperial lives to capture the Empire’s greatest enemy.
Darth Vader detects Leia on the Millennium Falcon.
It’s a very good theory because it reaches its peak. return of the jedi Vader confirmed that he had no knowledge of Leia’s existence. In fact, Luke Skywalker doesn’t give in to his rage until his dark side dad finds Leia and threatens to bend her to his will. Therefore, Darth Vader The Empire Strikes Back You might have sensed a powerful Force user aboard the Millennium Falcon and simply assumed it was Luke. From a distance, her presence would have felt very similar to Luke’s during the attack on the Death Star (he said at the time, “The Force is strong in this”).
Some Star Wars fans may feel that Darth Vader’s obsession with the Millennium Falcon doesn’t need a compelling reason, and it’s certainly laughable to think that the Dark Lord of the Sith simply doesn’t care about the body count of his obsession. (Nearly 47,000 people are gone, and that’s from the Star Destroyer we know!). But we like the idea that Vader always had a secret purpose. In the novelization new hopeObi-Wan Kenobi speculated that his former student was “taking his time preparing for an incomprehensible abomination.” Listen to his old Jedi Master. This bionic villain doesn’t do anything without a reason.
At the very least, this fan theory will change the way we view events. The Empire Strikes Back. Next time Darth Vader chases the Millennium Falcon, remember that he’ll likely think he’s hunting Luke Skywalker. Little did he know that the young man was resting on Dagobah, taking a one-week intensive course that would eventually help him become the greatest Jedi Master in the galaxy.
