Christian last played for the Sydney Sixers in the 2022-23 season and has been an assistant coach for the Thunder over the past two summers.
The 41-year-old responded to a late call-up for the clash with Heat at the Gabba in response to the Thunder’s rising injury toll.
It comes after Daniel Sams (concussion) and Cameron Bancroft (broken nose and fractured shoulder) were involved in a horrific collision on Friday.
Tanveer Sangha (side strain), Jason Sangha (bicep) and Sam Konstas (Australia Test duty) are all also ruled out.
