Curtis Jones has been called up to the England squad for games against Greece and the Republic of Ireland this month after being left out last October.
Jones was a late addition to Lee Carsley’s squad during the October international break, but was withdrawn from duty due to the birth of his daughter.
However, the midfielder has qualified for the UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and Ireland on November 14 and 17.
Those two games gave Jones the opportunity to make a belated England debut, having also been left out of Gareth Southgate’s provisional squad for the Euros following his first call-up.
He is one of two Liverpool players included in Carsley’s final selection, with Trent Alexander-Arnold an ever-present for England at this stage.
However, there is no place for either Joe Gomez or Jarell Quansah, with the latter likely to feature in the England U21 squad.
Tyler Morton should also be included in the U21 squad for the games against Spain and Netherlands, but Harvey Elliott will miss out as he nears his return from a foot injury.
Carsley will lead England to two games this month before stepping down when Thomas Tuchel takes over as full-time manager.
Another change to the dugout could give the likes of Jones and Gomez a sense of new opportunity, while discussions about Alexander-Arnold’s role will continue.
But for now, we can only hope that another England international will be available as Liverpool’s number 17 prepares to make his debut.
