McMillan, who made 260 international appearances between 1997 and 2007, will work with manager Ben Sawyer starting the tour of England which begins later this month.
McMillan was previously New Zealand’s batting coach from 2014 to 2019, during which the team reached back-to-back ODI World Cup finals. He also served as the fielding coach for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018. McMillan’s most recent assignment was as Canterbury’s batting consultant last season.
“He is a proven coach with extensive experience on the international stage,” Sawyer said. “The players are delighted to be working with Craig and they are looking forward to him joining us for the upcoming tour of England.”
McCollum said he was “desired to lead the team forward” ahead of a busy schedule that includes the Women’s T20 World Cup in just four months.
He said: “I am delighted with this appointment and am delighted to be back in the international cricket role as a coach.”
“I am delighted to be joining the White Ferns family as we head into a busy nine months with some exciting challenges ahead. I have watched this talented group of players closely over the past few seasons and am looking forward to joining the management team and taking the group forward.”
New Zealand will tour England for three ODIs and five T20Is from June 26 to July 17. They will then travel to Australia in September for a three-match T20I series before the T20 World Cup begins in October.
