Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series contains all 26 episodes across four discs. This remastered edition retains the original 4:3 aspect ratio but has improved high-definition resolution. It includes the original Japanese audio track with English voice dubbing and subtitles. With every episode, you get a variety of bonus features, including five audio commentaries, various featurettes, several interviews, and more.
Amazon’s deal on Funimation’s 2014 release, which drops the price to $18, is the best we’ve seen this year.
Amazon is also selling a special 25th anniversary edition for $27.49 (was $50). This edition, released by Crunchyroll last year, is virtually identical to the $18 version, except that it includes a fifth disc featuring a 25-year retrospective and an interview with Koichi Yamadera (Spike’s voice actor) recorded to commemorate the series’ 20th anniversary.
Cowboy Bebop takes place 50 years after Earth became uninhabitable. In 2071, many humans live on moons and other planets in the galaxy. Like the protagonist of Intergalactic, Cowboy Bebop follows a bounty hunter. Spike Spiegel is the leader of a group of bounty hunters (cowboys) who travel the galaxy on an interplanetary fishing trawler (Bebop) to collect bounty contracts for criminals.
Although it deals with some serious topics, Cowboy Bebop is also often funny and heartfelt. The ragtag group of bounty hunters who join Bebop are well-developed characters that you can really feel for throughout the show’s 26 episodes. Plus, Cowboy Bebop has a very nice and intelligent dog named Ein (a space corgi).
