A recent workshop attended by approximately 50 senior representatives of the country’s business sector featured presentations on ongoing COP29 projects, general preparatory measures and national pledge standards applicable only to local businesses. According to the agreement, the National Pledge Program, inspired by Race to Zero and Azerbaijan’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), has been adopted as a basis for sponsorship by domestic companies, as well as decarbonization of the social and industrial sectors. It also covers water, agriculture, desertification, the transition to green energy, broader society and other topics until November 2024.
Private companies can participate in national pledging programs to assess their internal potential for achieving climate goals, build future strategies based on knowledge and experience gained through COP29 partnerships, and strengthen accountability and management resources to meet specified sponsorship criteria. can.
Companies are expected to define their strategic objectives within the next 12 to 24 months under this program.
