Cooper Flagg scored 42 points and broke Duke’s freshman single-game scoring record during the Blue Devils’ 86-78 win over Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
The highly regarded Flagg passed Zion Williamson (35 points, 2019 vs. Syracuse) on Duke’s all-time freshman list. He also became the first Duke player since JJ Redick to reach 40 points in a game against Virginia in January 2006 and tie the ACC freshman record.
Jared McCain (35), Redick (34) and Marvin Bagley III (34) are next on the Blue Devils’ single-game freshman scoring list.
While scoring 30 and 40 points for the first time with No. 4 Duke, Flagg hit a career-high four 3-pointers, 11 shots from the field and 17 free throws. He also tied a career high with seven assists and threw down another big dunk.
The Flag and Blue Devils will look to extend their 10-game winning streak when they take on the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday.
