Kansas City Comets Press Release
INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Comets (3-0-1) easily defeated the Dallas Sidekicks (0-1-0) 9-2 on Sunday evening at Cable Dahmer Arena.
Christian Anderaos had a career night with four goals, demonstrating his relentless work ethic in turning high-pressure defense into goals. Phillip Ejimadu also returned as a starter and earned his third win of the season.
The Comets had another productive start to the game, scoring three points in the first quarter. Ramone Palmer opened the scoring 6:09 into the contest to cap off a quick, well-worked team goal. Rian Marques scored a superb backheel two minutes later and Anderaos scored his first goal of the season to end the quarter.
The Comets continued their strong performance into the second quarter when Zach Reget found a corner kick to make it 4-0, but Dallas advanced when Jamie Lovegrove scored the Sidekicks’ first goal of the season. Anderaos later scored his second of the game as the Comets led 5-1 at the halftime break.
Dallas came out in the third quarter and sent a warning signal when they struck back after three quarters with Esai Romero’s score. That warning was ignored as the Comets finished the night with four points. Marcel Berry scored his third of the season before leaving the game due to injury as Anderaos completed a hat-trick to win 7-2.
The Comets kept the pedal to the metal, scoring another score in the fourth quarter. Chad Vandegriffe spent his first season in a slot configured below the goaltender. To cap off the night, Anderaos scored his fourth score of the night despite the Comets being underdogs and facing six attackers.
The Comets held off 16 of Dallas’ attempts in the final period to earn their third win of the season. Kansas City sits atop the MASL season with 10 points after three weeks.
The Comets return home on Saturday, December 28 to face St. Louis. Face off against Louis Ambush. I-70 contest tickets are available now at kccomets.com/tickets.
