Talk about real life blending into the game world. Developer Colossal Order has released a new developer diary looking at what’s included in Cities: Skylines 2’s next major patch, revealing that a landlord had to be removed over rent. so damn High.
“You’ve likely come across complaints about ‘high rents’ in games, so let’s talk about them,” the studio said in a post on the game’s website. “We have adjusted the way rents work to compensate for the land value changes in March Patch 1.1.0f1. First of all, by eliminating the virtual landlord, building maintenance costs are now paid equally by all tenants. Second, we changed the way rent is calculated.”
Going forward, rents will be determined by household income. And now citizens will not just complain, they will try to manage their money better and spend less on resource consumption.
“Only when income is too low to pay rent do people complain about ‘high rents’ and look for cheaper housing or leave the city,” they said.
In addition to rent changes, building tenants must pay maintenance costs that affect the overall quality of the building. If you pay the full cost, the condition of the building will improve. If you don’t pay, conditions will worsen until the building collapses.
The release date for Cities: Skylines 2’s next patch has not yet been revealed.
