Mauricio Pochettino is expected to be officially announced as the new head coach of the United States men’s national soccer team soon, and Christian Pulisic is excited to work with him.
“I think it’s good news,” Pulisic told CBS before scoring in AC Milan’s 2-1 loss. Parma On Saturday. “I think it’s for a change and I think we need to take a step forward and really improve as a team and find some good results ahead of this World Cup and build momentum ahead of that moment.”
Pulisic is not the only USMNT player to back a reported signing. Yunus Musa, Pulisic’s Milan teammate, believes Pochettino brings a level of prestige to the sidelines thanks to his experience as a manager at big European clubs including Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain.
“To be honest, when I saw the news, I was happy to see that a manager like Pochettino, who has coached many top teams, agreed to coach us,” Musa told CBS earlier this week. “It’s not official, but if he were to be our manager, it would be a huge help. He’s a manager who’s worked with top players, so he’s definitely got a lot to teach us.”

The USMNT is scheduled to play friendlies against Canada and New Zealand on Sept. 7 and Sept. 10, respectively. If Pochettino is not officially announced before then, U.S. Soccer’s U-20 men’s coach Mikey Vargas is expected to lead the team in the September transfer window.
