Christian Eriksen produced a solid performance against Denmark in their 2-0 Nations League win over Switzerland last night.
Denmark sealed the win with two second-half goals from Patrick Dorgu and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The Scandinavians were helped by Switzerland being reduced to nine men during the game and the win sees them top their Nations League group ahead of Serbia, Spain and their opponents that night.
Denmark had 55% possession and had 17 shots on goal compared to their opponents’ five.
United veteran Eriksen started his first game of the season and put in some valuable time on his feet. He has played just four minutes for the Red Devils this season.
Denmark’s interim coach warned Eriksen will need more playing time soon if he wants to remain in the national team this season, but he did not let another outstanding performance ruin his chances.
The creative passer has been one of his country’s bright spots despite a poor showing at Euro 2024 last summer and impressed last night as he earned a SofaScore rating of 7.6.
The 32-year-old played for 62 minutes and was the heart of the nation’s game, as usual on the ball.
He had two shots on target, one missed and one blocked during an intense hour-long game, but did not start the scoring.
Eriksen had 42 touches and completed 32 passes with an accuracy of 88%.
He also created a good chance and almost recorded an assist, but his team-mate failed to convert it into a goal.
The playmaker sent three crosses into the box in the hope of opening the scoring, but his efforts were not successfully passed to his teammates.
The Dane’s agent has already claimed he is confident the player will get more playing time at Old Trafford after the international break, with the Carabao Cup and Europa League campaigns set to get underway.
Clearly he still has plenty to offer on the international stage and will be hoping Erik ten Hag gives him the chance to show he can still bring sparkle to his Old Trafford career.
He will be looking for more playing time against Serbia on Sunday night as he looks to show his manager what he has been missing.
