Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (Republican) predicted in an interview on Sunday that tech billionaire Elon Musk would lose influence over President-elect Trump.
“When will this end?” ABC News’ Jonathan Karl asked Christie about Musk’s influence on Trump on “This Week.”
“If Trump believes something is wrong and needs someone to blame, and Musk takes responsibility, then the situation is over. And no one knows how long that will take.” Christie answered.
Musk strongly supported Trump in his presidential bid, supporting him after the assassination attempt on the president-elect last July. He also appeared at rallies for Trump and started a pro-Trump super PAC, America PAC, which donated $118 million to the committee.
“The people sitting center stage with Trump have a shelf life, and that shelf life is affected by external events,” Christie said on ABC.
Earlier this week, Trump and some of his allies opposed the government funding deal negotiated by Johnson even as a Friday deadline to avoid the latest government shutdown loomed.
“Any member of the House or Senate who voted for this outrageous spending bill must be voted out within two years!” Musk said this on social platform X on Wednesday.
Christie said on Sunday’s “This Week” that Musk “doesn’t stand up in front of 20,000 people and have people say his name, no matter how rich he is.”
“Sometimes it can be difficult for people to understand how addictive this can be for some people,” Christie said.
