Scotland bowler Charlie Castle has become the first cricketer to take seven wickets on debut in an ODI, achieving the feat against Oman in Dundee on Monday.
The right-arm quick, representing Sydney University Cricket Club, took record figures of 7-21 from 5.4 overs in the eight-wicket win.
Castle’s figures are the best for a men’s ODI debut, surpassing South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada’s 6-16 against Bangladesh in July 2015.
The 25-year-old was a last-minute addition to Scotland’s ODI squad as a replacement for injured Chris Sole, who was unavailable for personal reasons.

“I never expected to play,” Castle told Sky Sports.
“Just being able to compete is special, but being able to perform like that is even more special.
“It’s unrealistic, and it doesn’t feel real yet… Right now, it just feels like I’m on the moon.
“It’s like a dream. Sometimes I have to pinch myself.
“This is absolutely ridiculous.”

Oman were 2-49 when Cashel came into the attack in the 12th over and took three wickets in his first over on the international stage. After catching Zeeshan Maqsood for 10 runs on pad LBW, he became the 32nd cricketer to take a wicket with his first ball in a men’s ODI.
Castle, later named man of the match, helped Oman’s lower order to score 91 runs in 21.4 overs as Scotland chased down the 92-run target with 196 balls to spare.
Born in Aberdeen to a Scottish mother and English father, Cashel played club cricket for Guildford Midlands after his family moved to Perth in 2005. He has represented Sydney University since moving to Sydney in 2018, playing his second year for the club last summer.
Cashel, who also represents Forfarshire Cricket Club in Scotland, could face Australia in the T20 series in Edinburgh in September if selected.
Scotland will play Namibia again at the same venue on Friday.
