I’m a huge horror fanatic, but there are two things that keep me from watching scary movies. Bad reviews and bad cover. Unfortunately in 2015 final girl Suffering from both, I kept ignoring the movie no matter how many times various algorithms shoved it in my face. I finally gave in and watched this movie for free on Tubi. Despite what the haters say, this movie is pretty much watertight Horror movie.
The Last Girl cast is eye-catching.
cast final girl Although quite thin, Abigail Breslin ( Little Miss Sunshine) and Wes Bentley (best known as The Final Girl). american beauty and interstellar) as her no-nonsense trainer. She’s been trained by a mysterious organization that gives her James Bond-level skills to help her kill bad guys. In this film, the bad guys in question are charismatic sociopaths (Alexander Ludwig, hunger games and viking TV show).
It’s not everyone’s favorite car, but I really liked it. final girl That’s because of the succinct storytelling, including the fact that we don’t get many exact details about who this mysterious organization is, what their purpose is, or even what exact year this period piece takes place. This is the ultimate “show, don’t tell” horror movie, and it fits the bill thanks to director Tyler Shields. Shields is actually a photographer, and to his credit, he infuses every frame of the film with a signature style that finds a balance between the artistic excess of Zack Snyder and the artistic minimalism of Jim Jarmusch.
Attention Buffy fans
If you like horror movies, I think you’ll enjoy it. final girl Subvert expectations of great traditions. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The villains are a quartet of young killers who use dark tricks to select an unsuspecting target and take her into the woods, where they don tuxedos and reveal their plan to hunt and kill her. They’re looking to make Breslin’s character their next target. Not knowing that Breslin has been training his whole life to kill these types of scumbags in the most brutally creative ways.
The film may be difficult to appreciate without looking at its equally creative but highly figurative design. It’s basically a classic revenge story with the twist that the would-be victim is ready to turn the tables. This is a bit like what Buffy Summers would get if she hunted human monsters rather than undead monsters. Despite the very familiar tropes on display, this film is more than the sum of its metaphorical parts, as its dialogue shines, its cinematography is breathtaking, and its kills are unpredictable and satisfying.
Not enough reviews
Unfortunately, not everyone appreciates it. final girl It was pretty much the same when it came out (first through a limited theatrical release, then through video-on-demand). On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently has a 25% critic score, but only 12 critics. And while all the fanboys love to say that critics tarnished their favorite movies, this is one of those cases where most critics actually get it wrong, complaining that the plot is basic and the movie is too violent. What on earth did they expect? horror movie?
It’s true final girl The complex plot of a Chris Nolan movie won’t blow your mind. However, I would argue that the best slasher movies are those that maintain the classic formula of a movie that: friday the 13th Still, it surprised us with a few unexpected twists and turns. That’s it. final girl That’s right: it takes the formula of hunting and killing unsuspecting victims in the woods, but turns those victims into potential victims. The result is a rare scary movie that allows us to root for a brutal murderer while she’s busy murdering the worst of people.
Will you find it? final girl It was as thrilling as it was for me. Or would you agree with critics that this attempt at an artistic slasher falls short of hitting the cinematic arteries? I just want to leave a quick note that I wish someone had shared with me when this movie came out in 2015. many It’s better than that terrible cover suggests.
