washington — Country music star Carrie Underwood is scheduled to perform at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next week, a spokesperson for the inaugural committee confirmed.
It’s a sign that Trump’s second inauguration could attract bigger names than his first eight years ago.
Underwood, whose career began after winning “American Idol” in 2005, is scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” before President Trump is inaugurated on January 20. The Armed Forces Choir and the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club join the choir. Come with her.
Opera singer Christopher Macchio performs the national anthem.
Before his inauguration in 2017, Trump gave a concert at the Lincoln Memorial that included performances by Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down and Lee Greenwood. Jackie Evancho, who appeared on ‘America’s Got Talent’, sang the national anthem at the inauguration ceremony.
President Trump’s inauguration celebrations will begin Saturday at his golf club in Sterling, Virginia, about an hour from Washington state, the inaugural committee announced Monday.
President Trump is scheduled to visit Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia on Sunday and then hold a rally at Capitol One Arena in Washington with his supporters. In the evenings, candlelit dinners are included in his schedule.
Inauguration Day will include a church service and tea at the White House with President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden before President Trump’s inauguration. There will also be a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue and three inaugural balls.
The Village People, whose ‘YMCA’ became a staple song at Trump events, posted on Facebook Monday that they had accepted an invitation to perform at “Inauguration Day activities, including at least one event with President-elect Trump.”
