Jonathan David is considering a new contract with Lille and has said he has a “50-50” chance of remaining at the French club.
The 24-year-old Canadian striker is enjoying his fifth season at Lille and is top of the league scoring charts with 11 goals in 15 games. He reportedly offered a two-year contract, with his contract expiring at the end of June.
“As the president (Olivier Letang) has said on several occasions, discussions are taking place. We are talking, but no decision has been made yet,” David told local newspaper La Voix du Nord in an interview on Monday. said. “The door never closes. It’s 50-50.”
David has scored 17 goals overall this season, including 4 in the Champions League and 2 in the qualifiers, taking his tally to 101 since joining in 2020.
He is one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe and Lille risk losing him if he does not re-sign. However, Letang has previously made it clear that he will not sell David during the January transfer window.
Lille are fourth in the league and host struggling Nantes on Saturday when Ligue 1 resumes after the winter break.
