Vancouver Whitecaps defender Sam Adekugbe will replace the injured Alistair Johnstone ahead of Canada’s friendly against Mexico in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday.
Johnston left after 23 minutes of Saturday’s 2-1 win over the United States in Kansas City. He was replaced by Rich Laryea.
“He said he felt a little bit of tightness in his hamstring,” Canada coach Jesse Marsh said after the game. “So he thought it was wiser to just go.”
Adekugbe was originally called up to camp by Marsch but was ruled out with an injury, with CF Montreal’s Nathan Saliba coming on as a replacement. Saliba earned his first Canada cap on Saturday, coming on in the 94th minute.
Adekugbe, 29, who has won 42 caps for Canada, appears to be back in good health.
Forward Theo Baer arrived at Canada’s camp injured and was replaced by Jason Russell-Rowe.
