Kaitlyn Clark appears ready to stop a flagrant foul on Chennady Carter.
Clark was asked if he thought Carter should issue a public apology to him before Friday night’s game against Indiana in Washington, and the standout rookie dismissed the idea.
“No, basketball is competitive, I get it,” Clark said. “Sometimes your emotions overwhelm you. It’s happened to me several times throughout my career.”
Clark took the court and hit a career-high seven 3-pointers in the Fever’s 85-83 victory over the Mystics. She scored her 30 points, her career high.
Carter, who plays for the Chicago Sky, knocked Clark to the floor before an inbounds pass during one game last weekend. The WNBA eventually elevated the foul to a serious one, and the incident led to a larger debate about how Clark was received in her first season in the league.
Kaitlyn Clark-Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese continue to energize the WNBA.
“People are competitive,” Clark said Friday. “That’s what it is. She’s having a tremendous season. She played great basketball. In my eyes, she’s probably the No. 6 player of the year award…. There’s no grudges. There’s no such thing. It’s sports. “Competition isn’t always going to be good.”
