Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield raised eyebrows last week when he said Tom Brady’s championship mentality is adding stress to the team’s locker room.
After Brady responded during a broadcast of the Buccaneers’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Mayfield downplayed the comments when speaking to reporters.

“A lot of it was taken out of context and there was nothing personal about it,” he said via ESPN. “That’s what he demands from his players, that’s the aura of Tom Brady, and that’s what he did to bring a championship here.
“It’s nothing personal, but when I talk to him before the game, he’s obviously happy for me and he knows the players, so he knows how much I love throwing the ball to Mike (Evans) and Chris (Godwin) (because) he does the same thing. “It’s fun to be able to talk about the same experience as that man.”
Mayfield made his first remarks on the “Casa de Klub” podcast.
“The building was a little different when Tom was there,” Mayfield said. “Obviously Tom is different in terms of his play, he puts everyone in a tight environment and I think everyone is quite stressed.

“So me and everyone was expecting the Bucs to not be good last year, and they wanted me to come in and be myself and bring a little bit of joy to football for people who don’t have a lot of fun and just don’t have fun with football. “Keep raising the level of competition. They can’t ask for more from me as a player.”
Brady reacted bluntly after watching Mayfield throw two touchdown passes during Sunday’s game.
“I thought it was stressful not having a Super Bowl ring,” Brady said during the game. “I had the mindset of a champion who took me to work every day. This wasn’t a daycare center. If I wanted to have fun, I would take my kids to Disneyland.
“There’s a way to approach this game and trying to push each other out of your comfort zone is the right mindset, and great teammates do that. You’ve got guys like (Rob) Gronkowski who come in, you’ve got guys like (Mike) Evans. “The expectations for us are very high and we must go out and deliver.”
