Borussia Dortmund are one of Europe’s top clubs considering a loan move for Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, the reliable David Ornstein reports.
It is looking increasingly likely that Rashford will leave Manchester United this month. His future at the club has been in the headlines over the past few weeks amid beliefs that United want to part ways with him.
Ruben Amorim does not seem to see the England international as a key part of his plans, which puts his future at Old Trafford in serious doubt. With United under pressure to let players go before new deals are signed, and given that Rashford is a product of the club’s academy (the transfer fee is seen as a ‘pure benefit’ in financial terms), it’s likely he plays in the Theater of Dreams. The possibility of doing so seems to be increasing. It could be the end.
In an interview just before Christmas, the player himself admitted that he was ready to leave United in search of a new adventure.
Rashford continues to be linked with a number of clubs including Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and the Saudi Pro League.
Ornstein has now provided a bit of an update on Rashford’s transfer situation.
According to a reporter for The Athletic, “Borussia Dortmund are one of several clubs considering signing Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United this month.”
“The Bundesliga side, along with AC Milan, Juventus and Premier League clubs, are considering attempts to sign the 27-year-old England international by the summer.”
“No decision has been made by either side yet and it is likely that Rashford will remain at United, despite his willingness to part ways and the forward saying he is “ready for a new challenge”.
“However, external interest is growing and discussions are taking place to establish the possibility of a temporary transition away from Old Trafford.”
Ornstein rightly points out that Dortmund and United have had such deals in the past. Most notably 12 months ago when Jadon Sancho spent the second half of the 2023/24 season at Signal Iduna Park.
It is understood the Red Devils will want any suitor to cover a significant portion of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages.
