Boomer Esiason sparked a discussion on WFAN Sports Radio on Thursday when he shared his views on the Giants missing out on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“To be honest, I’m thankful they don’t have the No. 1 overall pick,” Esiason said. “I don’t want a quarterback in New York.”

The Giants’ 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday saw them drop from the coveted No. 1 spot in the draft order to No. 4 overall. Many fans viewed this as a missed opportunity to select top quarterback prospects Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, but Esiason sees a different path forward.

Instead of investing in an unproven rookie QB, he suggested an alternative strategy.
“If I were a team that needed a coach and a quarterback not named the New York Jets, wouldn’t it make sense for someone to hire Brian Flores and bring in Sam Darnold?” Esiason said.
The veteran analyst believes the duo can transform the Giants’ struggling offense.
“If (the Giants) had the courage to bring in Brian Flores as a head coach, Sam Darnold as a quarterback and Tee Higgins as a free agent… Sam was different,” Esiason said. “It’s someone else.”
Giants draft position and team morale
The Giants’ unexpected win over the Colts didn’t just impact their draft rankings. This snapped a franchise-record 10-game losing streak and prevented them from becoming the first NFL team to go 0-9 at home in a season.
New York wide receiver Darius Slayton defended the team’s competitive spirit.
“We definitely say no tanking,” Slayton said after the game. “It’s like anything else. We have a job to do. This isn’t basketball, it’s not golf, it’s not tennis. In soccer, you just have to hit it. I’m not going to go out there and just let people tee off at me with a tank.”
The win showcased Drew Lock’s offensive potential, with him throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Rookie WR Malik Nabers shined, recording seven catches for 171 yards and two TDs.
“It was really fun,” Rock said after the game. “We were clicking. We knew we had it. Now it was time to get out there and show it and execute.”
With one game remaining against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants face a crossroads. They could win and fall further down the draft order, or they could lose and potentially move back up to the top two picks.
