LAS VEGAS — BMW AG said Tuesday that it will install a new operating system and “panoramic” displays in all of its upcoming vehicles.
The new BMW Panoramic iDrive system with a windshield-length display is based on BMW Operating System X, announced by the German automaker at the CES technology show. The feature is scheduled to be released before the end of this year.
The new display appears at the bottom of the windshield, a new trend in the automotive industry. The goal is to give drivers more information while allowing them to keep their eyes on the road.
“With these advancements, we are delivering even greater functionality to one of the world’s best and most comprehensive infotainment systems and once again leading the industry in multi-modal interaction,” Frank Weber, who leads vehicle development at BMW, said in a press release. “We get to set a benchmark,” he said.
The display should look similar to this: ford car The Lincoln brand includes an SUV called Nautilus, released in 2024.
The new BMW system also includes a “multifunction steering wheel” that lights up relevant buttons depending on how the car is used, BMW said.
The system will begin rolling out internationally first, with a U.S. debut scheduled for mid-2026.
