The idea of a Blizzard-produced, StarCraft-focused shooter has been floating around since it was first announced. StarCraft: Ghost The project ended in 2002, but its subsequent closure seemed to have definitely closed the coffin. “StarCraft is not dead at Blizzard,” Schreyer said in the interview. He mentioned a project focused on creating a shooting game set within the StarCraft universe, but noted that it may be canceled like the first two attempts.
Schreier did not provide any details about what the game will look like, when it will be released, or even whether it will be first or third person. But he did, as director Dan Hay said: Far Cry 5was leading the project, which is really good news.
The first attempt was called. StarCraft: Ghost It was supposed to be a third-person stealth game focusing on Ghost units, a type of psionic spy commando. Announced in 2002, discontinued in 2006, and after years of silence, Blizzard officially canceled the project in 2014. According to Schreier, the second attempt was to have Battlefield under the code name Ares.–Similar influences were glossed over in favor of more popular titles.
So why is it worth having hope now? Blizzard is putting more effort into it than it has in recent years. With Microsoft’s support, Blizzard has a source of funding. The project has an experienced director in Hay.
